Missing PCT hiker

Postby Ulysses » Thu Aug 10, 2017 7:07 am

This is the first I've read of this PCT hiker from Ireland missing since April. Anybody else heard about this guy? I'm amazed that he's been missing since April and there hasn't been a search effort. Or did I miss the story earlier?

Thank you for this post, Ulysses. I had heard nothing about it myself. How sad and awful. There should be (much) more publicity about it. This year has been very tragic on the PCT. A lot of lessons learned for future years with heavy snow pack and snowmelt. Poor young man. :(

I had not heard either.

Some cases quickly become high profile, and others go almost unnoticed.

I am feeling unsettled.

Here is a slightly more in depth article by the Press-Enterprise.

Wow, it sounds like a tragedy of errors--no one jurisdiction taking responsibility and time dragging on and on without a search. It's really creepy that he had bank activity in late May.

Like you, Wildhorse, I am definitely feeling unsettled. :( Poor kid. All he wanted to do is have a great adventure.
